Jeffersonville was laid out in 1831. The village derives its name from Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States. A postal service has been in operation at Jeffersonville since 1834. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the village has a total region of 1.74 square miles (4.51 km2), of which 1.70 square miles (4.40 km2) is territory and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) is water. As of the census of 2010, there were 1,203 citizens , 502 homeholds, and 322 families residing in the village.
